• adjure:
      1. 1. obtestor, 1: I a. you by all the gods to undertake the whole business, per omnes deos te obtestor ut totam rem suscipias, Cic.: I a. and implore all the gods, deos omnes imploro atque ob., Cic.: I beseech and a. you to show this man pity, oro ob.que vos ut misericordiam huic tribuatis, Cic.
      2. 2. obsecro, 1: to entreat and a. any one, aliquem orare atque ob., Cic.: he a.d him by the ashes of his departed brother, eum ob. per fratris sui mortui cineres, Cic. Note, obtestor and obsecro had both orig. a religious force, obtestor always retained this meaning, but obsecro freq. means simply to entreat: v. to entreat: often in combination with obtestor: as, id ut facias obtestor atque obsecro, Cic.
