      3. 3. stĭmŭlus (lit. a goad; hence, urging, prompting): cf. Tac. H. 3, 53, suis stimulis excitos Moesiae duces, i. e. by his influence or instigation.

By anybody’s instigation, aliquo instigante (Cic., Pis., 11); aliquo impellente; aliquo auctore or impulsore; alicujus impulsu or auctoritate; alicujus instinctu (Tac., Hist., 1, 70): by the instigation of others (or another), alieno impulsu.
